In order to complete the baccalaureate requirements for San José State University all students must complete, in addition to the major requirements, the lower division California State University General Education Breadth Requirements as specified in Executive Order 1100 issued by the Office of the Chancellor, California State University System, February 16, 2015.
General Education Breadth agreements consist of courses that a student can complete at a community college to satisfy General Education-Breadth requirements at San José State University.
Some of these requirements are to be completed after transfer but most (39 semester or 58 Quarter units) are to be completed during the freshman and sophomore years. The templates presented below are formatted to the specifications of Executive Order 1100 and are subject to change so it is important that students visit their counselors/advisors and secure a copy of the general education requirements for their particular campus.
The California State University General Education Breadth Requirements presented below are for advisement only as the specific campus is responsible for recommending and certifying all courses for that institution.
Note: Course-to-course articulation does not mean that a course will also earn General Education (GE) credit. GE approvals are campus specific, meaning the student will earn GE credit in the area for which the course was certified on the campus when and where the course was completed.(For example, TA 40A at West Valley Community College articulates with TA 005 at San José State University. TA 40A is NOT approved for GE at West Valley College however TA 005 meets Area C1 if completed at SJSU. If the student completes the West Valley College's TA 40A they WILL NOT earn GE credit for that course, but if they complete SJSU's TA 005 they will earn GE Area C1 credit.)
