Lower Division Requirements
Fall 2012 - Spring 2013
BS - Engineering - Aerospace Engineering
San José State University -to- CSU, Bakersfield
Community College students should meet with a counselor as soon as possible to determine the equivalent courses offered at that institution. Students should complete as many as possible of the lower division requirements listed below, prior to transfer.
Lower Division Course Requirements | Community College Course Equivalents
Preparation for the major:
| General Chemistry Equivalent Transfer Course (or CHEM 1A taken at SJSU) | Chem 211 Principles of Chemistry I AND Chem 212 Principles of Chemistry II OR Chem 213 Principles of General Chemistry III | |
| Note: SJSU requires completion of the Chemistry sequence for most majors, however this major only requires completion of one semester equivalent General Chemistry, in lieu of CHEM 1A. | ||
| MATH 030 Calculus I | Math 201 Calculus I | |
| MATH 031 Calculus II | Math 202 Calculus II AND Math 203 Calculus III | |
| MATH 032 Calculus III | Math 203 Calculus III AND Math 204 Calculus IV | |
| MATH 133A Ordinary Differential Equations | No Current Equivalent | |
| MATH 129A Linear Algebra I Community College Math courses articulated with SJSU's Math 129A or 133A will meet the course content requirements for the major but will not receive upper division credit. | No Current Equivalent | |
Physics Requirement: | ||
| Note: Students who begin their university experience as freshmen at San José State University will need to take the following Physics series: PHYSICS 70, 71 and 72 (equivalent to PHYSICS 50, 51, 52, 53) at San José State University. All transfer students will be expected to have completed the course equivalents to the Physics series listed below. | ||
| PHYS 050 General Physics/Mechanics | Phys 221 Classical Physics I | |
| PHYS 051 General Physics/Electricity and Magnetism | Phys 222 Classical Physics II | |
| PHYS 052 General Physics/Heat and Light | Phys 223 Optics and Modern Physics | |
| PHYS 053 General Physics/Atomic Physics NOTE: if there is no transfer equivalent for Physics 53 the transfer student will need to complete this requirement at SJSU. | No Current Equivalent | |
| OR | ||
| PHYS 070 Mechanics | No Current Equivalent | |
| PHYS 071 Electricity and Magnetism | No Current Equivalent | |
| PHYS 072 Atomic Physics | No Current Equivalent | |
Engineering Requirements:
| CE 099 Introductory Statics | No Current Equivalent | |
| ENGR 010 Introduction to Engineering | No Current Equivalent | |
| ME 020 Design and Graphics | No Current Equivalent | |
| ME 030 Computer Applications | No Current Equivalent | |
| EE 098 Introduction to Circuit Analysis | No Current Equivalent | |
| MATE 025 Introduction to Materials | No Current Equivalent | |
| To qualify for a baccalaureate degree in Aerospace Engineering, a student must receive a grade of "C" or better in CE 99 and in all courses required for the program (Major and Technical Electives). | ||
All students must satisfy the following prerequisite (or equivalent) prior to registering for the WST and 100W courses at SJSU {Academic Senate policy S05-8}.
| Once you complete the following course requirement (earning a grade of C or better) contact https://testing.sjsu.edu to register for the WST exam at SJSU. Passing the WST prior to your first semsester at SJSU will prevent delays in registering for upper division courses: | ||
| ENGL 001B Composition 2 A "C" or better is required in English 1B (a "C-" is not acceptable). | No Current Equivalent | |
| or | ||
| 2nd English Composition Equivalent Transfer Course | No Current Equivalent | |
| A course articulated to SJSU's English 1B is recommended, however any course approved for the IGETC second semester English composition area would be accepted to meet this requirement (a grade of "C" or better is required). | ||
IMPORTANT TRANSFER INFORMATION:
Prior to transferring to San José State University all transfers must earn at least 60 transferable semester units (90 quarter). Within those 60 semester/90 quarter units students are strongly encouraged to complete the following:
1. General Education Requirements:
Complete all the CSU GE Breadth requirements at the community college (39 semester units/58 quarter units). The approved courses for each area can be found at www.ASSIST.org under the link "CSU GE-Breadth Certification Courses" for your college. Many of these courses can be double counted to meet the major requirements shown above, so choose your courses wisely. Please see your college counselor/advisor to review your general education in order to receive FULL OR PARTIAL CERTIFICATION PRIOR TO TRANSFER to San José State University.
2. Second Semester English Composition:
Complete the second semester English composition course (or equivalent) as it is a prerequisite to registering for the WST and 100W courses at SJSU. Students must earn a grade of "C" or better in this course (a "C-" is not acceptable). Approved courses can be found above within the lower division major requirements. Be sure to select this course as part of your CSU GE-Breadth 39 semester unit requirements. Once this course is complete, students are encouraged to take the WST exam at SJSU to avoid delays in enrollment for other SJSU required courses. To register for the WST contact our Testing office at testing.sjsu.edu.
3. American Institutions Requirement (US 1, US 2, and US 3 must be completed):
This requirement is normally 2 courses and can be taken as part of your CSU GE-Breadth 39 semester unit requirements (GE Area D and sometimes Area C). The approved courses can be found at www.ASSIST.org under the link "CSU US History, Constitution, and American Ideals Courses" for your college.
4. Physical Education Requirement:
Two courses are required and must include at least two different activities. Completion of these courses will clear the graduation requirement at SJSU.
5. Lower Division Major Course Requirements:
Complete as many of the lower division courses required for the major as possible. Many of these courses may be double counted as part of the CSU GE-Breadth 39 semester unit requirements. These requirements are shown above.
