Dropping Classes After the Fourteenth Day of Instruction

1. After the Schedule Adjustment period, dropping a course is permissible only for serious and compelling reasons. Unsatisfactory performance in coursework is not a serious and compelling reason in itself for requesting permission to drop. Late Drop requests must be received in Academic Services no later than the last day of instruction.

2. Permission to withdraw from courses during this period may be granted only with the approval of Academic Services. Withdrawal from the semester forms are available at the Student Services Center.

3. Students who have officially dropped a course in which they are enrolled, or who have had a withdrawal approved, will receive the symbol "W".

4. If the student qualifies, the thirteenth week of instruction is the beginning date for instructors to give "Incomplete" grades.

An unofficial drop is one in which a student stops attending classes without filing the appropriate forms, whether it is a Late Drop form or a Withdrawal from the Semester, within the established deadlines. Students receive a "WU," which is computed as an "F" for grade point purposes, when they unofficially drop (stop attending) class. Students who have dropped a class unofficially and have therefore received a grade of "WU" may be eligible for Academic Renewal.

Retroactive Course Drop requests may be submitted after the semester has ended. Requests for a retroactive drop of a specific course are not granted unless the student shows extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control that prevented the student from dropping the course.
