For purposes of determining a student's eligibility to remain at San José State University, both quality of performance and progress toward the student's objective are considered. Such eligibility is determined by units attempted, grade points and the grade point average.
Grade points are assigned as follows:
| A | 4.0 |
| A minus | 3.7 |
| B plus | 3.3 |
| B | 3.0 |
| B minus | 2.7 |
| C plus | 2.3 |
| C | 2.0 |
| C minus | 1.7 |
| D plus | 1.3 |
| D | 1.0 |
| D minus | 0.7 |
| F | 0.0 |
| WU | 0. |
| IC | 0.0 |
The grade point average is obtained by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total number of graded units which the student has attempted. Courses for which the symbols CR, NC, RP, I, AU, W have been assigned do not enter into the grade-point average. The grade point average is cumulative, excluding only lower division (1-99) courses.
