Release of information
Parents often fail to realize that, once a student turns 18, the university is by law not allowed to release any information to relatives without the student's explicit permission. The best way to find out how your student is doing, if you have any concerns, is to ask. Ask to see grade reports at the end of the semester, or grades on papers, projects and tests during the semester.
SJSU can tell you if a student is enrolled, but may not release any information about attendance, grades, or any other personal aspect of the student's life. Again, open and free conversation with your student is the best avenue of communication.
