San José State University accepts both lower division (Freshman - Sophomore) and upper division (Junior - Senior) students in the "Undeclared" objective category. Students who are in doubt about what to state as a major or a field of concentration should apply to the university as "Undeclared." Junior and Senior transfers are encouraged to declare a major as soon as possible.
The university recognizes that not all students have made decisions about educational and career objectives. Over 70% of all students change from one major to another while they are in college. Roughly 14% of new applicants to SJSU are "Undeclared." A student's experience in college is a period of enormous intellectual, social, and vocational growth and change. The best decision an undecided student can make is to refuse to be pressured into an unrealistic and premature choice of major.
