The interdepartmental Creative Arts Program offers a major for students interested in making connections between the arts and in studying the creative process.
Each major works with the Creative Arts Coordinator to design an individual program combining interdisciplinary Creative Arts classes with courses in Art and Design, English, Music, and Theatre Arts. Students especially value this program for its flexibility and individual advising: no two majors take quite the same program of study.
Students completing the Multiple Subjects Credential preparation (a program unique in California for its emphasis on the arts) take a different upper division program, usually including courses in arts for children, a pre-professional experience class, and additional supporting courses preparing them to teach in today's culturally diverse classroom.
The Creative Arts major is designed to provide a breadth of knowledge and depth of understanding of the arts which prepare students for a wide variety of professional programs and careers. Majors plan careers in performing and visual arts, professional and creative writing (including screen- and play- writing), and teaching. Special minors in Business Administration and in Public Administration have been designed for Creative Arts majors who plan careers in arts management.
