Industrial and Systems Engineering
The broad scope of the Industrial and Systems Engineering program sets it apart from many of the "classical" engineering programs. An industrial engineer deals with people as well as technology and studies the total picture of productivity improvement.
Industrial engineers look at the "big picture" of what makes our society perform at its best: the right combination of human resources, natural resources, and man-made structures and equipment. Often they bridge the gap between management and operations, motivating and working with people as well as determining what tools should be used and how. This is particularly relevant with regard to the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) operations.
Industrial engineers may be employed in any type of industry, business or institution from retail establishments and manufacturing plants to government offices and hospitals.

Preparation for the Major: |
| General Chemistry Equivalent Course |
| Note: SJSU requires completion of the Chemistry sequence for most majors, however this major only requires completion of one semester equivalent General Chemistry, in lieu of CHEM 1A. |
| MATH 030 Calculus I |
| MATH 031 Calculus II |
| MATH 032 Calculus III |
MATH 123 Differential Equations and Linear Algebra Community College math courses articulated with SJSU's Math 123 will meet course content requirements for the major but will not receive upper division credit. |
