Computer Engineering

The computer engineering curriculum provides a solid background in science and engineering. The major covers topics ranging from the design of computer hardware and the core software that makes computers run, the design of computing components of other systems (such as in cell-phones, aircraft, digital cameras, etc.), the design and construction of computer networks and of software for truly large-scale enterprise systems. Computer Engineering students are expected to choose a set of elective courses to focus on a particular area of specialization. Graduates from the program have excellent opportunities for careers with local and national industries, business, and entrepreneurship. In addition they have the intellectual foundation for post-graduate education.

BS Computer Engineering

Preparation for the Major:

General Chemistry Equivalent Course
Note: SJSU requires completion of the Chemistry sequence for most majors, however this major only requires completion of one semester equivalent General Chemistry, in lieu of CHEM 1A.
MATH 030 Calculus I
 OR
MATH 030P Calculus I with Precalculus
MATH 031 Calculus II
MATH 032 Calculus III
MATH 042 Discrete Mathematics
MATH 129A Linear Algebra I
MATH 133A Ordinary Differential Equations
The transfer student may take an equivalent course in linear algebra (Math 129A) or ordinary differential equations (Math 133A) at the community college and receive content credit upon transfer.

Physics Requirement:

Note: Students who begin their university experience as freshmen at San José State University will need to take the following Physics series: PHYSICS 70 and 71 (equivalent to PHYSICS 50, 51, and 52) at San José State University. All transfer students will be expected to have completed the course equivalents to the Physics series listed below.
PHYS 050 General Physics/Mechanics
PHYS 051 General Physics/Electricity and Magnetism
PHYS 052 General Physics/Heat and Light
OR
PHYS 070 Mechanics
PHYS 071 Electricity and Magnetism

Engineering Common Core Requirements:

CMPE 046 Computer Engineering I
ENGR 010 Introduction to Engineering
ME 020 Design and Graphics
EE 097 Introductory Electrical Engineering Laboratory
EE 098 Introduction to Circuit Analysis
ENGL 001B Composition 2
A "C" or better is required in English 1B (a "C-" is not acceptable). English 1B is required of all Engineering majors.
