Hospitality Management

Hospitality Management offers a BS degree in Hospitality Management with emphases in lodging, restaurant and convention service management. An inter-disciplinary common core serves as the foundation for hospitality knowledge with skilled experience earned in the field through a 300-hour apprenticeship and a 400-hour internship. The major is complemented by a business minor. Core classes are taught by faculty in the departments of Nutrition and Food Science and Recreation in the College of Applied Sciences and Arts, and in the College of Business by faculty in the departments of Organization and Management and Accounting and Finance. The department is supported by an active industry advisory board with representation from the region’s hotels, restaurants and meeting and event planning facilities. The students and faculty, in conjunction with its advisory board, conduct a number of major special events including the International Hospitality Celebration, a food and wine tasting event held every May, and the Spartan Hospitality Industry Award dinner, honoring an outstanding member of the hospitality community, held in the fall. There are currently more than 400 alumni of the department, many working in managerial positions in hospitality in the Bay Area.
