Engineering is the profession requiring the processing of energy, information and materials for the benefit of our world. Engineers must have good communication skills; a thorough understanding of mathematics and basic science; strong preparation in the engineering sciences; and education in the application of engineering principles to design machines, processes, parts, devices, and structures, and to protect the environment. In addition, the engineer should understand the relationships among human beings, society, and technology, appreciate the value of knowledge in other fields, and have a sense of professional ethics.
