Freshmen students are advised to contact the appropriate credential program advisors during the first semester on campus. Without early advisement, students may discover they need additional semesters to complete subject matter preparation requirements or other credential prerequisites.
Community college students who intend to earn a credential after transferring to SJSU are advised to seek academic counseling early in their academic careers. The Teach for Tomorrow program, which is housed in the College of Education, helps transfer students who identify teaching as a probable career to establish networks of information at SJSU. Teach for Tomorrow is a consortium of local San José area community colleges and SJSU which encourages transfer to teacher preparation majors. Participating community colleges are Cabrillo, De Anza, Evergreen Valley, Foothill, Gavilan, Hartnell, Mission, Monterey Peninsula, San José City and West Valley. Contact the Transfer Center at these campuses for local guidance.
