What can EOP do for you?
EOP will help smooth the transition from your current high school or community college to San José State University by providing:
- Orientation services and information about the campus and the university
- Assistance with scheduling classes
- Exploration of career/major objectives
- Resolution of personal concerns which affect academic progress
- Offer academic assistance and support such as tutoring
- Offer a summer enrichment program prior to the fall semester for eligible students
- Provide graduate school planning and guidance for EOP juniors and seniors
The EOP Summer Bridge program
Summer Bridge is an intensive program designed to provide invited students with instructional, social, and cultural experiences to improve student retention and ensure academic success and reduced time to degree. Program activities accelerate the adjustment by providing a spectrum of educational experiences including orientation, instruction, tutoring and on-campus residential living.
Who may apply?
EOP admits California resident students who:
- Are high school graduates or the equivalent or transfer students
- Meet regular admission requirements
- Have a history of low income
- Have a history of being educationally disadvantaged
- Meet the income guidelines
- Demonstrate need for academic assistance
- Demonstrate need for support services to succeed in college

- Do not meet regular admission requirements, but have sufficient English and mathematics skills to succeed in college level courses.
- Have the potential and motivation to succeed at San José State University
- Have a history of low income
- Meet the income guidelines
- Demonstrate need for academic assistance
- Demonstrate need for support services to succeed in college
For local transfers only:
- Students transferring from EOPS programs at San José area community colleges may be eligible to apply to the SJSU EOP program via the AB1114 program instituted by the California legislature. By completing the AB1114 form at the community college EOPS office, a smooth transition from EOPS to EOP is assured. Students must meet regular admission criteria for transfers, including completion of four basic skills courses, 60 transferable semester units and a minimum grade point average of 2.0. Participating community colleges are Cabrillo, De Anza, Evergreen Valley, Foothill, Gavilan, Hartnell, Mission, Monterey Peninsula, San José City and West Valley.
