SJSU Admission

Freshman On-Campus Housing Requirement
All admitted freshmen who graduated from a high school outside a 30-mile radius of SJSU will be required to live on campus for their first year. Residence in University Housing or the International House (I-House) satisfies the freshman on-campus housing requirement. Students must send their housing application directly to the I-House to live there. There is no application fee.
Are there exceptions to the housing requirement?
Yes, if you graduate from a high school located in a city within 30 miles of the 95192 zip code, you are exempt from the on-campus housing requirement.
Are there any other exceptions?
Exceptions are limited and documentation will be required. Appeals for exceptions to the housing requirement will be reviewed after admission.
Examples include:
Age 21 or older on the first day of classes for Fall 2013
Independent (as defined by the Free Application for Federal Student Financial Aid: FAFSA)
Current active military or U.S. military veteran status
Married/Domestic partnership and/or with legally dependent children
Financial hardship
Other: Demonstrated special circumstances which would create a substantial hardship and cannot be remedied by alternative means
