The School of Nursing provides registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, medical corpsmen, and persons with coursework in nursing from other schools the opportunity to petition for advanced placement. Students wishing to petition for advanced placement must be nursing majors, have at least sophomore standing in the university and be evaluated by the Advanced Placement Coordinator. Registered Nurses may enter the Advanced Placement Option after completing 56 semester units of transferable college credit.
Licensed Vocational Nurses may enter an accelerated program after earning 30 semester units of transferable university credit. Individual assessment is available for admission for graduates of foreign nursing schools that have transferable college credit. LVN 30-unit Option: The School of Nursing offers a 30-unit option for LVNs to be eligible to apply for the Registered Nurse licensure examination in the State of California. This option does not permit the award of the baccalaureate degree. The course work includes: BIOL 66 (5 units); MICRO 20 (5 units); NURS 23 (2 units); NURS 125 (4 units); NURS 145 (4 units); NURS 127 (4 units); NURS 147A (2 units); NURS 138 (2 units); NURS 148 (3 units) and NURS 101B (1 unit). This nursing license does not qualify for reciprocity with other states.
